Pocket 2 is a compact handheld LiDAR SLAM scanner for rapid 3D reality capture of indoor and outdoor environments. It combines LiDAR, visual cameras, inertial sensing, and optional positioning workflows to capture point clouds, imagery, and digital twin data without a traditional static-scanner setup.]

What does SLAM mean?

SLAM stands for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping. In practice, the scanner estimates its movement while building a 3D map of the surrounding environment, allowing the operator to scan continuously while walking.

What optional accessories are available?

Available accessories include RTK sets for Pocket2 and Pocket2 Pro, Insta360 + RTK dual holder, extra standard handle battery, Close-up Camera, Trigger Battery, and high-speed data cables. Some accessories or mounting kits may be quoted separately or may still be under development. Confirm the current accessory list before quoting.

What is the warranty?

Pocket2 and Pocket2 Pro include a one-year limited warranty. US customers should receive first-line support through authorized Manifold partners, with escalation to Manifold technical support when needed. Repair, RMA, loaner, and replacement policies should be confirmed by reseller and region.

Specifications, Accuracy, and Cameras

How accurate is Pocket 2?

Pocket2 is specified for point cloud accuracy better than 0.4 in / 1 cm under appropriate conditions. Real project accuracy depends on scan geometry, scene structure, operator workflow, loop closure, control points, RTK/GNSS conditions, processing settings, and the required deliverable tolerance.

  • For formal deliverables, validate the scan against known control points.

  • For survey-oriented projects, report project-specific QA results rather than relying only on product specifications.

  • The right sales question is: what tolerance does the customer actually need for the deliverable?

Can Pocket 2 be used for professional survey deliverables?

Yes, when used with appropriate control, QA, and professional workflow. Pocket2 should be positioned as a professional data capture tool. Whether the final output qualifies as a licensed survey deliverable depends on the user’s control workflow, validation, reporting, and the licensed professional responsible for the project.

What accuracy can I expect in real projects?

A practical answer should separate relative point cloud consistency from absolute/georeferenced accuracy. For interiors, warehouses, MEP rooms, plants, and construction documentation, Pocket2 can produce high-quality datasets when recommended scanning practices are followed. For survey or engineering deliverables, the customer should use control points, RTK/GNSS where appropriate, and QA checks against known coordinates.

How much does Pocket 2 weigh?

The Pocket2 main unit weighs approximately 1.74 lb / 790 g, and the handle battery weighs approximately 1.07 lb / 485 g. Pocket2 Pro is slightly heavier, with a main unit weight of approximately 2.12 lb / 962 g and a handle battery weight of approximately 1.05 lb / 476 g.

What is the LiDAR range?

Typical measurement range is up to 131 ft / 40 m on low-reflectivity surfaces and up to 230 ft / 70 m on high-reflectivity surfaces. Actual range depends on surface material, reflectivity, lighting, weather, and environmental conditions.

How many points does it collect?

Pocket2 and Pocket2 Pro capture approximately 200,000 points per second, producing dense point clouds for documentation, measurement, BIM reference, asset management, and digital twin workflows.

Does it capture color?

Yes. Pocket2 uses synchronized RGB cameras for true-color point clouds and visual context. Pocket2 Pro adds two 12MP top panoramic cameras for richer scene capture and improved visual reconstruction workflows.

What is the camera resolution?

Pocket2 uses three 2MP global-shutter RGB cameras. Pocket2 Pro uses three 2MP global-shutter cameras plus two 12MP high-resolution top-mounted panoramic cameras. The dual 12MP cameras are standard on Pocket2 Pro and are not included on Pocket2.

What is the optional Close-up Camera used for?

The optional Close-up Camera is designed for close-range and detail photo capture, such as equipment labels, asset tags, defects, components, and other specific close-up images. It is not part of the standard package and requires the Trigger Battery. It should not be described as a default camera module or a generic 3DGS upgrade.

How long does the battery last?

Typical operating time is around 120 minutes per battery. Runtime can vary depending on operating conditions, capture mode, temperature, battery age, and accessory use.

Field Workflow and Scanning Practice

Can I see my scan while collecting data?

Yes. MindCloudGo provides real-time point cloud preview and trajectory monitoring so the operator can verify coverage before leaving the site. Users can switch display modes such as true color, intensity, and elevation view during field operation.

What mobile devices are supported?

MindCloudGo supports Android and iOS. HarmonyOS is not recommended. For best field operation, mount the phone on the device, keep the phone connected to the device WiFi, and lower the preview point limit if phone performance is limited. The preview point limit affects only mobile display, not the final point cloud file.

Can Pocket 2 scan indoors?

Yes. Indoor environments are one of the strongest use cases because Pocket2 does not rely on GPS. Typical use cases include buildings, warehouses, industrial facilities, MEP rooms, tunnels, historical buildings, and public safety scenes.

Can Pocket 2 scan outdoors?

Yes. Pocket2 can be used outdoors when the scene has sufficient geometry and the operator follows good scanning practice. For larger outdoor projects or projects requiring absolute coordinates, RTK, GCPs, or downstream survey control should be considered.

Does it require GPS?

No. Pocket2 can operate using SLAM without GPS. RTK/GNSS and control workflows are optional and are used when the project requires georeferencing or integration into a survey coordinate system.

How should the operator scan?

Initialize the device in a scene with a wide field of view and sufficient lighting. Hold the device vertically in front of the body, move smoothly, check the mobile preview for missing areas, avoid violent shaking, and do not rotate in place. Recommended field practice is to keep walking speed below 1 m/s and turning speed below 40 degrees/s.

What environments are challenging for SLAM?

SLAM performance depends on geometry, texture, motion, and workflow. Challenging environments do not mean impossible, but they require more planning and QA.

  • Long featureless corridors or tunnels without loop closure

  • Repetitive multi-floor spaces such as parking garages

  • Glass, mirrors, water surfaces, and highly reflective or transparent materials

  • Dense moving crowds or many moving vehicles

  • Very open outdoor areas with limited geometry

  • Heavy rain, snow, dust, or environmental conditions outside product specifications

  • Very fast walking, abrupt motion, or incomplete loop closure

What is the recommended scan size or scan duration?

There is no single fixed limit because scan size depends on scene complexity, operator path, storage, processing hardware, and deliverable requirements. For best results, break very large projects into manageable segments, plan loop closures, and use RTK/GCPs where appropriate. For long projects, ask the customer about site size, accuracy tolerance, and processing hardware, then propose a pilot workflow.

What happens if I miss something?

The real-time preview helps identify missed coverage while still on site. For important projects, use a planned walk path, overlapping passes, loop closure, and a short post-scan review before leaving.

How do I copy data from the device?

Power on the device and connect the DATA port to a computer using the supplied Type-C cable. Once the device storage is recognized, data can be copied. If the computer does not recognize the device, confirm that the device is powered on and use the original cable or a USB 3.0 high-speed data cable.

Software, PC Requirements, Data, and Compatibility

What software comes with Pocket 2?

Pocket2 works with the MindCloud software ecosystem. MindCloud Studio Basic is included with all official devices. Pocket2 Pro includes a two-year PC MindCloud VisualPro license. MindCloudX.ai cloud services, industry modules, API/SDK, private deployment, and custom software are quoted separately.

Do I need a software subscription?

MindCloud Studio Basic is included with official devices. VisualPro is an optional paid license for Pocket2 and included for two years with Pocket2 Pro. MindCloudX.ai cloud services are usage-based or quoted separately. Each software license can be activated on one computer only.

Can I process data offline?

Yes for local point cloud processing through MindCloud Studio on a licensed PC. Cloud processing and cloud collaboration are not required for every workflow. Advanced cloud services, MindCloudX.ai workflows, private deployment, and custom software are quoted separately and should be discussed based on the customer’s data requirements.

Note: For larger projects, high-density processing, mesh/texturing, and PC 3DGS rendering, stronger GPU, more RAM, and larger SSD capacity are recommended beyond the baseline requirements.

What processing options does MindCloud Studio provide?

MindCloud Studio supports point cloud loading and optimization, loop closure, bundle adjustment, moving object filtering, robust mode for large datasets on memory-constrained computers, batch processing, measurement, cropping, sectioning, resampling, registration, merging, mesh generation, texture mapping, earthwork measurement/comparison, navigation map generation, USD export, MipMap export, and CC / iTwin Capture Modeler export.

What file formats and deliverables can I export?

MindCloud Studio supports mainstream point cloud and 3D export workflows depending on software version and licensed modules. Typical deliverables include point clouds, colorized point clouds, sections, measurements, DXF slices, meshes, textured meshes, volume reports, USD exports for simulation workflows, MipMap export for Gaussian workflows, and CC / iTwin Capture Modeler export for third-party reconstruction workflows.

Is it compatible with Autodesk, Bentley, Trimble, Leica, FARO, CloudCompare, ArcGIS, and other software?

In most workflows, yes, because Pocket2 data can be exported to common point cloud and 3D formats. The exact workflow should always be tested with the customer’s required software version, coordinate system, and deliverable requirements.

Can I combine Pocket 2 data with TLS, drone, or photogrammetry data?

Yes. Pocket2 is often used as a complementary capture tool. It can document areas quickly while TLS, drone, or photogrammetry data can be used for other coverage, precision, or visual requirements. Registration, merging, and downstream alignment should be validated project by project.

How do I georeference the scan?

Pocket2 supports RTK and GCP-based workflows. During RTK processing, MindCloud Studio can read GNSS positioning data recorded by RTK and convert relative coordinates to a target ellipsoid + projection coordinate system. GCP optimization can import control point coordinates from CSV and use them for coordinate transformation and validation.

Does it support State Plane or local coordinate systems?

MindCloud Studio provides target coordinate system configuration including ellipsoid parameters, projection parameters, calibration parameters, datum transform, plane transform, height fitting, geoid model import, and NTv2 grid import. WGS84 + UTM is a common international workflow. For US State Plane, NAD83, local grid, or project-specific coordinate systems, confirm the current workflow with Manifold or the authorized partner and validate with a sample dataset before committing to a deliverable.

Can I generate a control point report?

Yes. MindCloud Studio includes a Control Point Report function. After GCP optimization, users can verify control point accuracy and export inspection results as a PDF report for project documentation.

Can it be used for BIM and construction?

Yes. Pocket2 is well suited for existing conditions documentation, Scan-to-BIM reference workflows, construction progress monitoring, as-built documentation, MEP coordination, renovation planning, and site verification. The final BIM model or drawings are typically produced in the customer’s BIM/CAD software or by a service provider.

Is it suitable for public safety?

Yes. Its portability and rapid capture make it suitable for scene documentation, crash reconstruction support, fire investigations, disaster response, and emergency management. Agencies should validate the workflow according to their own evidence, reporting, and chain-of-custody standards.

Can it support robotics or simulation workflows?

Yes. MindCloud Studio includes navigation map generation and USD export workflows that can support embodied intelligence, robotics, navigation, obstacle avoidance, and NVIDIA Omniverse simulation workflows when configured for those use cases.

Is training included?

Training options vary by reseller. Authorized partners may offer on-site training, remote training, online learning resources, workflow consulting, and technical support. For professional users, we recommend training on the customer’s own project type.

Can I get sample data or a demo before buying?

Yes. Demonstrations and sample datasets are strongly recommended. Customers should test the workflow using their own target deliverables, coordinate requirements, software environment, and accuracy expectations.

Can I rent, lease, or finance it?

Rental, leasing, financing, pilot, and loaner programs may be available through authorized partners and vary by region. Do not promise availability unless the reseller has confirmed the program.
